CapClown - insect cover for soda cans / Insektenschutz für Getränkedosen
thingiverse
I searched for a protective cap for soda cans on our camping trip, but found nothing that met my needs, so I designed one myself. The design is primarily for kids, who will enjoy the clown-like appearance and the fact that it can be easily snapped on or off with a small flap on its head. The bottom side features a rim to prevent spills, while the small extrusion fits into the opener to prevent excessive rotation if the cap doesn't fit securely due to manufacturing tolerances. There are two versions of the design: one made from a single material and another suitable for multi-color prints. The STL file for the multi-material version can be separated in a slicer into two distinct parts, with color inlays printed at 0.4mm/2 layers to achieve adequate opacity. Although this was my first attempt at printing with filament changes, I'm still learning this technique and am not entirely satisfied with the quality. I tested three versions of the design: one made from multi-material PLA, another from single material PLA, and a third from PETG. I put each through a practical test on our holiday trip without encountering any issues related to tolerances or leakage while drinking from different cans. However, I do note that we've always washed these types of items by hand, so it's unclear whether they can withstand the dishwasher, particularly if made with PLA. Every maker must consider the hygiene aspects of 3D-printed parts and food for themselves. If you have any color prints or would like to provide feedback on optimization and usability, I'd love to see your photos and hear your thoughts.
