Capacitive Soil Moisture Sensor with ESP8266

I've Abandoned This Design, Check Out My New One Instead: I had trouble with Deep Sleep given my limited programming abilities. I changed the design to a 5V USB power supply. Unfortunately, I never completed the redesign that included a battery and top cover. Check Out My Latest Project: The Capacitive Soil Moisture Sensor is based on an ESP8266 Mini D1 and costs just $1. It runs on a single 18650 battery, entering deep sleep mode with wake-up every two hours. This module uses ESPHome and connects to Home Assistant. The sensor is connected to an Analog-To-Digital converter. I plug the battery directly into the 5V input, and it works perfectly even when providing 3.3-4.2V power.
