Canyon Impact Protection Unit IPU E117-12
thingiverse
I designed a customized handlebar stopper that perfectly fits my Grand Canyon hardtail's impact protection unit, eliminating the need to constantly replace the original part which frequently broke apart. To obtain spare parts, I had to resort to emailing customer service or making an inconvenient trip to Koblenz. The new design doesn't exactly match the original dimensions but provides increased clearance between the headset-cap and stopper for enhanced durability against impacts. For optimal performance, this stopper should be printed with ABS plastic at 100% infill. I discovered that PLA failed miserably during testing as it broke apart instantly due to the IPU clamp's nose. The installation of this handlebar stopper is solely at your own risk since its design intent is to protect the frame's top tube from bar-end impacts before compromising the retaining screws in a carbon frame. As 3D printed parts are inherently uncertain, the failure behavior of this component can't be guaranteed. I have been using this customized stopper for several months now and it has performed fairly well under various impact scenarios, with no significant damage reported after multiple hits.
