cans - cutting template tool
myminifactory
This is a tool that lets you cut out a template shape from a can. The idea behind it is simple: anyone can make all sorts of items or products using this device. I made sure people could use it without needing any extra parts (parts that weren't printed by 3D printing). You can see one example I came up with, like a nice romantic candle holder with a template of sinus waves, and I've also uploaded the SolidWorks files so you can make your own template for whatever purpose you need. Plus, you might want to adjust the dimensions to get it to work with your specific 3D printer. To use this tool: You'll need one external part that isn't 3D printed: a pin (which I assume everyone has). Take the can and cut off the top edge of it. Insert the tube into the can. Put a dot on the can, in one of the slots, using a pin. Place the ring on the can so that the hole in the ring matches up with the dot you just made. Take both parts of the screw and put the pin between them. Tighten the screw almost all the way to the side of the ring (this is an adjustable part, so you can decide how deep you want the pin to go). You can also use this tool just for scratching the can. Start moving the ring around the path and watch as it cuts while in motion.
