Canopic jar lid

Canopic jars kept the internal organs from mummified bodies tightly sealed and were always sold in sets of four. One of three jar lids was unearthed by Egyptologist Howard Carter in 1902 in the Valley of the Kings alongside millionaire businessman Theodore M. Davis. Later, a tomb (KV 27) near the original site yielded fragments of the fourth jar in 2006. The jar itself is currently on display and bears an inscription reading "Userhat, Overseer of Amun's fields".
