Canon G1X_filter adapter tube/lens hood
thingiverse
This is a bayonet-mount 86mm filter adapter for the Canon G1X. I designed it to provide protection for the lens without introducing any vignetting. In fact, an 82mm objective would likely suffice, but I opted for 86 to ensure compatibility with stacked filters if needed. The design was printed using PLA. I modified axelerator's EF Mount to create the bayonet mount "threads". It serves several purposes: 1) It enables attachment of a filter, preserving the lens and encasing the entire barrel to protect delicate mechanisms from dust and impact. 2) It provides a more comfortable hand hold, making it easier to take high-quality photos. 3) It offers a stable base when setting the camera down. The interior diameter of the objective end is 85mm. The 86mm filter measures 85.85mm on its outside threads. I plan to create threads by heating a 86-105 step-up ring, as many filters have a plastic film inside. Edit 3-20-17: An updated version with a detent for locking lug, an exterior visual reference for locking lug, and a chamfered outer perimeter of the objective end has been uploaded. Print Settings: Printer: Anet A8 Rafts: No Infill: 100% Notes: I used a resolution of .1 and supports to ensure a clean design. Lower resolutions (.2 or greater) may result in an improved light baffle, but supports are not strictly necessary.
