Canon has been an extremely popular camera brand for decades, producing countless cameras and lenses with various mounts. In 1964, they introduced the FL mount for 35mm film SLRs, which boasted an exceptionally well-designed breech lock that eliminated wear and tear. Six years later, in 1971, Canon upgraded to the FD mount, adding camera coupling for automatic aperture control, but this came at a cost: changing lenses was significantly slower and more cumbersome than using bayonet mounts. To address this issue, Canon introduced their clever "new FD" bayonet in 1978, which, unlike other camera bayonets, used an opposite design to be compatible with FL/FD lenses. This variant is commonly referred to as FDn or nFD. Over the years, a plethora of lenses were designed for these mounts, but due to their short flange distance, they became obsolete when Canon switched to their current EF autofocus mount - until mirrorless bodies with similar flange distances emerged, and now numerous commercial adapters are available. It's worth noting that 3D printing this adapter is feasible because it can be done in a single piece, albeit requiring some support for printing. It will function perfectly on manual M mounts, but the primary challenge lies in using it on a Techart Pro LM-EA7 adapter, which enables the latest Sony E mount bodies to autofocus most lenses that can be adapted to M mount. FD/FDn lenses do not behave as manual aperture control lenses by default, but typical adapters cannot fit onto an LM-EA7 due to the open/close rings hitting the motor housing. This adapter stands out because it incorporates an internal stop-down post. Furthermore, the LM-EA7 adapter has a 700g weight limit, so incorporating unnecessary weight would be counterproductive - this adapter weighs approximately 7g. The two images posted were captured using the LM-EA7 on a Sony A7II camera, one featuring the Canon FL 55mm f/1.2 lens and the other showcasing the Canon FDn 135mm f/3.5 lens, both wide open.
