I used a round file to clean all the holes thoroughly before tapping them to 3mm with a precise 0.5mm pitch. The screws that connect the two halves of the part are 5mm in length, while the set screws used measure 6mm in length. Using longer screws than 5mm may result in damage to the camera lens; ensure that screws do not protrude into the camera lens area when assembling the part. A 5mm long machine screw will yield a flush finish on the inside of the part. Once the two halves are securely together, insert the eyepiece from the camera side until the rubber eyecup rests in the tapered area on the camera lens side. Be aware that this next step may damage or leave marks on your eyepiece. Proceed with caution: do not over tighten set screws. Hold the eyepiece in place with set screws, applying just enough pressure to secure it. I discovered that the camera achieves optimal focus when set at a zoom of 55; to allow for sufficient room for auto focus to move freely, adjust the lens to manual focus, set the zoom to 55, and fine-tune the focus so the lens is fully extended. Remove the lens cap and insert the lens into the part. Be cautious: this next step may leave marks or dimples on the Canon 18-55mm camera lens zoom ring; other models of camera lenses may be susceptible to different types of damage. Do not over tighten set screws. Hold the lens in place with set screws, as the part is designed with extra set screw holes and only requires the ones closest to the camera body. Insert the part into the telescope, adjust the telescope's focus, set the camera to auto focus, and enjoy a clear view.
