A custom-made lens hood specifically designed for Canon's latest STM version of their 18-55mm kit lens has been developed. It's unique feature is its compatibility with this specific new model, while older versions such as the non-STM 3.5-5.6 18-55 won't work. Despite thorough searches, a commercially available lens hood suitable for the STM version couldn't be found due to the bayonet mount change from three locks on the older model to two locks on the new one. With the absence of any pre-made options, a 3D CAD model was created and shared to facilitate easy production by others. The STL file allows for direct printing without special adjustments required except pointing it upwards with 100% infill. Material specifications dictate the need to adjust scale levels for optimal fit in post-print processing stages - at least an additional two percent should be added on the initial build, which seems quite successful according to experience reports
