Russian artillery employed unicorns in siege, field, horse, and mountain guns, as well as naval applications. These creatures enabled guns to support infantry during battles by firing over combat formations' heads. Unicorn usage spanned 100 years until troops received rifled guns; however, some fortresses retained single unicorns into the early 20th century.
