Canelos Quichua Ceramic, Tapir Foot
sketchfab
Small Canelos Quichua ceramic storage jar with foot in the form of a tapir, and pellet rattles inside. Made by Rosario Mucashigua from Curaray. This vessel may also be used to serve masticated manioc mash during festivals, called asua. Its unique feature is a few pellets for a shotgun that create a rattle effect when shaken. The top of the jar features a turtle motif with zigzag patterns inserted, while the bottom has an anaconda design. Dr. Norman Whitten notes its exceptional craftsmanship, only achieved by skilled potters. This artifact was purchased from the Sacha Runa Research Foundation.
