Finding a projectI wasn’t sure what I wanted to make next. I scribbled around, drew some robots, blocky animals, nothing triggered me to detail it. I continued sketching things and than a can racer came into my mind. Okay - that might be fun.I roughly sketched a can and did some test assemblies. 330ml didn’t look right for me, so I tried a 500ml one and it had some charme - at least to me.Defining some goalsFor me “can racers” are kind of fragile. They are made out of really thin material and perhaps some e.g. welding wires. Often things are just connected by punishing a hole into it and perhaps some glue. I really like that look and want to keep it that way.“Can Racers” are also creative and everybody makes his own version of it. So it would be great to make it configurable. The question is how by not drawing dozent of different versions. My solution is: People should just load the can into the slicer and than add parts to it by using the “add part” function. Shure - might require multi-color printers and support structures, but those parts will need those anyway. I guess that are enough goals for the initial version.Make it thin and keep all connections simple (or don’t add them at all)Make variations of parts so people can create different versionsThe resultDuring the process of detailing the car I thickened some parts slightly to make it e.g. multi color or to enhance printability. But IMO it’s still light and you can see many details and it's customizable. I’m not into cars so names might (and will) be stupid. But I guess you can figure it out.Parts:Intakes and outlets:Air-Intakes-(sides)_1Air-Intakes-(sides-short)_1Air-Intakes-(top)_1Air-outlets-(sides)_1Air-outlets-(top)_1Intakes_1 Car body:Axis-Mount-(can)_1Axis-Mount-(can)_3Can-(body-inside)_1Can-(body-outside)_1Can-(bottom)_1Can-(top-open)_1Cockpit-Frame_1 (optional) Exhausts:Exhaust-(side-single-long)_1Exhaust-(side-tripple--low)_1Exhaust-(side-tripple-long)_1Exhaust-(side-twin--low)_1Exhuast-(back-oval)_1Exhuast-(back-twins)_1 Fender:Fender-(large)_1Fender-(medium-back)_1Fender-(medium-front)_1Fender-(small-back)_1Fender-(small-front)_1 Logos:Logo-Coke-(White)_1Logo-Pepsi-(blue)_1Logo-Pepsi-(red)_1Logo-Pepsi-(white)_1 Seat (Print only separately):Seat-Frame_1Seat-Mount_1Seat_1 Steering wheel (Print only separately):Steering-Wheel-(BottleCap---top-down)_1Steering-Wheel-(BottleCap---top-up)_1Steering-Wheel-(pull-ring)_1Steering-Wheel-Mount_1 Wheels (Print only separately):Wheel-(indent-inside)_1Wheel-(indent-outside)_1WheelCap-(BottleCap)_1WheelCap-(BottleCap)_3 Misc:Windshield_1Hood-Ornament-(pull-ring)_1LED-(back)_1Pull-Ring_1Notes:I assume that some people are not happy with only using a slicer to configure a car and perhaps parts like the top or bottom of a can might print easier (not easy) separately. I’ve created variations for some parts and put a (Glue) into the name. Some of those parts my loose some details or might be harder to print.Customizing the car in PrusaSlicer works great but it's kind of important that you drag & drop Can-(body-inside)_1 and Can-(body-outside)_1 together first.Answer the requester with yes and the car body is ready to get customized. Now you can add parts by right clicking the car body and choose “add part”
