My Campervan's Maintenance Hatch Gets a Much-Needed Upgrade! My trusty campervan has a maintenance hatch that needed some serious TLC, thanks to a modification that left the existing retainer woefully inadequate. At first, I thought a simple extension would do the trick - just add 1.4 meters and call it a day! But then I started thinking... What if this extension could be hinged? That way, it wouldn't get in the way during the trip! So, I added 8mm and 20mm to create a swiveling part that would make it easy to secure. But wait, there's more! Another solution was to use a spring-type extension - either small (13) or large (14). These parts were strong enough to hold the latch in place, but they had one major flaw: they'd break if you applied too much force. So, I came up with a clever design that uses a threaded part (15) to absorb the stress. The connector to the existing parts got an upgrade as well - now it can be locked in place with ease (30). And because I'd amassed so many different components, I created four more parts with just grommets (41-44), allowing you to tie something down with rope if needed. Here's the magic part: all these hinged pieces can be combined! A 3mm screw serves as the axle. After weighing my options, I opted for a simple screw-on version with a hinge (23) and fixed part (24).
