Campanian Askos

Campanian Askos

thingiverse

This is a 3D model of an ancient Campanian Askos, a pottery vessel dating back to around 400 BC from the Museum of Applied Arts and Sciences. The Greek word "Askos" actually refers to animal-skin bags used for carrying wine. This specific Askos was painted black with original fingerprint marks around its rim. Background This particular piece was one of ten museum objects scanned in 3D as part of Hack the Collection, a public program during the 2014 Sydney Design Festival. The program matched ten contemporary Sydney designers with ten objects from the Museum's collection. Designers spent two intense days at the Festival FabLab creatively manipulating their assigned 3D object files to create unique, hacked interpretations in front of an enthusiastic public audience. At the end of the weekend, the designers' remixed objects were 3D printed on MakerBots and displayed alongside their original counterparts. We see our collection as a source of raw inspiration. We encourage you to download and remix our collection, taking it in new directions as you see fit. We'd love to hear about the innovative forms and uses you come up with for our objects – feel free to share your handiwork with us!
