Camera Mount Mark II for Felix 3.0
thingiverse
I created a simple camera mount design specifically tailored for the Felix 3.0 Printer. This version has two main components, allowing users to attach the camera from behind which provides easier access for camera control adjustments. Velcro works remarkably well with smartphones and smartwatches alike when choosing a versatile attaching option for camera accessories. For securing this camera accessory into place I used a specific arrangement of tapped holes in the spherical joints that fit 1/4-20 bolts, as well as flathead #8 sheet metal screws placed within carefully sized recesses. Using an adapter piece or washer, it's ideal to screw from below rather than applying excessive torque, since you have less control on force application, but can avoid applying more stress. One additional modification made during development involved utilizing a 3D printed cone-shaped component that extends above the main body to delay final layers and increase top layer cooling efficiency while using the printer in standard mode or high-resolution print jobs, preventing sagging. This time-lapse photography piece I produced utilizing my iPhone 4S in conjunction with the Mk I camera mount design highlighted apparent inconsistencies in position control over a continuous period when shooting.
