Nikon camera owners know that their hot shoes have small plates curving up to the front side to facilitate secure clipping. The standard hot shoe cover features side lips along the cover from rear to front, which I believe will eventually weaken the hot shoe clips if left in place for an extended period. To prevent this issue, I've designed a short-lipped hot shoe cover with 5mm lips that don't press against the clips on the hot shoe. This simple solution effectively covers the pins beneath without any unnecessary flair, doing its job admirably.
