Camelbak magnetic tube clamp
thingiverse
After spotting the innovative new camelbaks featuring a magnetic tube clamp, I was eager to replicate this clever design for my trusty older generation M.U.L.E. NV. Fortunately, I had some spare neodymium magnets lying around that I incorporated into this project. Comprising three essential components: The base clip, which boasts a cavity perfect for housing a magnet (1/4x1/8x1/8 inches) and can be secured to either the sternum strap or the webbing portion of the backpack strap. The magnet cover, designed to snugly fit over the magnet cavity The tube clamp, which also features a cavity for the same-sized magnet to be placed inside Once you've positioned a magnet within the base clip, ensure that the polarity is correct for the magnet destined for the tube clamp. Optimal results are achieved with cube or cylindrical magnets. After printing, everything functions flawlessly. Once assembled, your tube will now securely attach via the satisfying action of magnets! Your camelbak hose will no longer flail about. However, the magnet cover fit snugly inside without requiring any adhesive. The magnet in the base clip has a little room to wiggle, creating a pleasant clicking sound when the tube clamp attracts to it, similar to the camelbak version. Installing the magnet for the tube clamp was slightly more demanding due to the relatively tight hole. I had to gently tap it into place, but the uploaded files have accommodated a slightly larger hole. My magnets were sourced from K & J magnetics, costing just 17 cents each (1/8 x 1/8 x 1/4 inches). Designing This Project I conducted a thorough search on Google images for the camelbak magnetic tube clamp and then replicated it by eye. To ensure accuracy, I employed a caliper to take precise measurements, such as the tube clip diameter and the strap slot width on the base clip.
