This intricately detailed boxwood écorché and a miniature ivory skeleton were generously donated to the University Library in 1591 by renowned London surgeon John Banister, who frequently delivered lectures to the Barber-Surgeons’ Company and authored numerous influential treatises. This remarkable object is the result of a collaborative effort between The Cambridge University Library, Dr Suzanne Paul (responsible for Manuscripts and University Archives), Maciej M Pawlikowski (Chief Photographic Technician), and Prof Dominic Powlesland (Affiliated Scholar at the McDonald Institute for Archaeological Research).
