Camaro ZL1 Solid & Surface

The Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 is a modernized classic muscle car, boasting a 376 ci LSA supercharged V8 engine with an impressive 580 HP. It set a lap time of 7:41.27 on the Nürburgring in 2012. This vehicle might be familiar to non-petrolheads from its appearance in the movie Transformers, where it transforms into the character "Bumblebee." This is my second 3D CAD model created using Solidworks 2015 and rendered with Keyshot 5. I aimed for greater precision and complexity compared to my previous Honda S2000 surface and solid models, experimenting with various features to achieve the best results. Although there's still room for improvement, it was time-consuming, and some facelifts of the ZL1 version feature different bumpers and roofs. Initially, I closely followed the original design in my modeling, starting from the front bumper. However, due to time constraints, I decided to continue based on my personal preferences. My goal was also to gain more experience with surfacing techniques. From an engineering perspective, major automotive companies likely create the entire bodywork and then produce individual parts from it for further work. The solid version of my model serves as a single piece that could potentially be used in a 3D printer, allowing me to correct any surface joint errors. Rendering is an ongoing process, and I constantly find minor mistakes upon closer inspection. Nonetheless, when considering the model as a whole, I believe it meets a satisfactory standard. The wheels, tires, brake discs, and calipers are my own creations, offering a good balance between aesthetics and functionality. The front wheel is a 20x10 (5x120 pitch-circle) rim with a 245/45R20 tire, while the rear wheel (20x11 rim) features a 275/45R20 tire height in the sketch. I used scaling to determine the width. The brake disc measures 14.5 inches in diameter, matching the stock ZL1 specifications. My model excludes suspension components, as it only showcases visible parts from an external perspective. Both step and parasolid versions are included for users of other CAD systems. This project is designed for educational purposes, 3D printing, and enjoyment.
