CAM-Source 3D: Encapsulated Double Helix
thingiverse
We're actively engaged in testing the printing process right now. The prototype is a hollowed out, double Helix design that's being encased within a cylindrical shape intended for 3D printing using SLA with a clear resin that must be highly polished to achieve a glass-like finish and reveal the internal structure of the double helix. Our initial trial run had an issue due to its small scale; after sanding and polishing, the exterior of the cylinder was quite visible but the inner double helix detail barely stood out. To improve on this, I've doubled up the scale for the next batch of test prints that are already posted here for reference. We'll share images as soon as we achieve successful printing with proper polish results for the parts.\n\n \n \n Steps\nAutoDesk 123D Design is the preferred design software.
