CALMA, Mask Supply

thingiverse

CALMA was born from a pressing need to prevent those who wear eyeglasses from fogging their lenses with the protective mask, which has become mandatory to slow the spread of Covid-19. This support creates a thickness on the chin, facilitating airflow that escapes downwards from the nose or mouth, thereby preventing lens clouding in the upper part of the face. CALMA is a product that must be meticulously modeled after the physical characteristics of those who wear it. For this reason, it's 3D printed with PLA filaments, corn-based polylactic acid, a material that allows for minimal modeling when heated to a certain temperature, resulting in a perfect fit on the face. Its skeletal structure is essential and minimalist, enabling it to be printed within 40 minutes or less. The printing time increases as desired filling levels are achieved in the empty spaces. CALMA was designed this way to minimize weight and material consumption. The hooks placed at the front of the structure make application easy – simply place them on the lower edge of the mask. Anchoring is straightforward: the mask is secured between the supports and the horseshoe structure, which is placed inside. The final product features three layers: the rear layer with the support resting on the chin, the mask itself, and the visible hooks. Once printed, simply post wherever you like and use the hashtag #CALMAMASKSUPPLY to reach us. This project was conceived by Clara Maria Pagliara (25; @clara.pagliara), Alessia Baldari (21; @alessia__baldari), Ludovica Costantini (21; @ludovicaco), Milena Squicciarini (21; @pseudonimus), and Amerigo Girardi (21; @_me_ri_go) as part of the FabLab course taught by Matteo Ordanini and Francesco Colorni for students in their second year of a three-year degree program in Design at NABA.
