Caliper with large clearance for measuring awkward stuff
thingiverse
This is a simple caliper I designed to measure thickness of the door which a cat flap was mounted to, and other equally awkward measurements. It prints nice and quick, and requires only a 3mm screw or pin to hold it together. The jaws move equally so to use you clamp the large jaws with clearance round whatever you want to measure, the use a ruler or vernier caliper to measure the gap between the smaller arms and voila! If anybody knows what this type of caliper is *actually* called, please let me know so I can update the title :D If you wanted to scale these up then printing at 133% should enable using a 4mm bolt and 166% a 5mm. 1/8" is 3.175mm, so you could also scale to 105.8% to use 1/8" hardware.
