Caliper Stand Moon Lander
thingiverse
I really enjoyed the caliper stand (check out the link below) and philosophy of Martin8 - that calipers need to be accessible in order to be used, not relegated to a dusty drawer. As someone who works on spaceships for their job, I also appreciated the moon lander vibe emanating from the design. I downloaded his project and printed it with great results, but unfortunately, it didn't fit either of my Mitutoyo calipers. Furthermore, since the base is flat and my 120-year-old dining table has an uneven surface, the stand wobbled a bit. I redesigned it after work last night: I enlarged the hole size to accommodate Mitutoyo 4", 6", and 8" calipers, modified the shape of the collars, raised the bottom collar cup so that the stand rested on three thickened round foot pads, and drilled counter sunk holes in those pads for screwing it down with #6 wood screws if desired. The print shown was produced using fast resolution settings, 15% rectilinear infill, and only two layers - bottom, sides, and top. Even at these settings, the result turned out well. If you adjust the shell to four layers, increase the infill to 30-40%, and opt for a honeycomb structure, it will yield a sturdy and attractive little stand. I've attached both fast and detailed slice files, as well as the normal .stl file, in case someone wants this and uses a Dremel Printer. Martin8's Thing: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3254536
