I spend most of my time creating complex three-dimensional designs and models. My trusty calipers are an essential tool for me, and I use them daily. However, about a month after replacing the battery, it suddenly died on me, leaving me puzzled. After conducting some research, I discovered that many digital calipers continue to drain their button cell batteries even when they're turned off. This revelation made me rethink my approach to using my calipers. From then on, I started removing the battery and only inserting it when I needed to use the device. Unfortunately, this new routine became quite inconvenient. I found myself constantly misplacing the battery or the cover in my cluttered workspace, which was frustrating to deal with. Frustration turned into determination as I realized I needed a better solution. For weeks, I stared at my calipers, trying to come up with a plan, but every idea involved using tools like soldering irons and hot knives, which were not feasible for me. My goal was to create a simple and easy-to-implement solution that others could also use without needing specialized equipment. It wasn't until I examined the top of my calipers more closely that I spotted an opportunity. By removing the smaller data output port and revealing a direct hollow passage to the battery, I realized that I could print a thin sheet of plastic to separate the contact points from the battery. Print Settings: Printer Brand: RepRap Printer: Wanhao Duplicator i3 Rafts: No Supports: No Resolution: 0.1mm Infill: 0% Notes: It's crucial that a raft is not used and the resolution is set to 0.1mm. Furthermore, it's essential that your first layer height is also set to 0.1mm. If these conditions are not met, the slot may struggle to fit properly.
