When I was setting up Professor Garcia's CNC machine, I needed to check that the spacing between rods was identical throughout its entire path. The foot ruler was the best candidate for this task, but mine only reaches taking measurements of less than 15 cm, and in my case they were around 16 cm. So, I decided to solve this problem by building a device very similar to the foot ruler, but it actually doesn't know the measurement in numerical form, but rather physically locates and secures the piece at a certain distance taken directly from the object being controlled. I called it "galgometro" in homage to carpenters who use the term "galgar" to put the same distance between two ends and establish parallel walls.
