this is a calibration and verification device to validate distance measurements for 3d scanners that use range finding techniques such as lidar, or sonar, or whatever. it has flat surfaces that extend out 0.5mm from 10mm from center and to 70mm from center. the part is about 140mm in diameter and dimensions can be changes parmetricly. it is a concentric design that gets thicker in increments, and the top curves in. if a 3d model of this can be correctly captured the sensor should measure some what reliably within 2mm by 2mm and angles in part up to 45degrees. or so i think. it is the best method i can come up with that provides a tool of a measured value. i would print it black as it is the least reflective and more than likely is also less reflective in the 940nm range as well. the sensors it is designed for use time of flight, either high frequency radar, or lidar sensors such as the vl53L0x or vl6180x sensors it is for a turn table style scanner. the size is parametric so it scales up as well.
