This calibration model is a miniature bow. Attach a standard rubber band and paper straw, and you're good to go. You can also store the straw on the bow and clip the bow to your backpack or belt. The product in this image was printed at a .25mm layer thickness. The infill threshold was set to 20cu mm to ensure thorough infill testing. The bow alone took 30 minutes to print. The handle is an optional accessory that prints separately from the bow body. This design aims to test several aspects of your printer calibration. It includes smooth surface areas, flat regions requiring bridging (the handle receptor area), and areas over auto-generated infill (rubber band tie points). It also tests smooth overhanging features (less than 45 degrees) and smoothly sloped surfaces to reveal layer steps along both the x and y axes. The design features horizontal holes to test 3D printer bridging and thin 1mm walls to check for gaps between thin walls. Setting the infill threshold to 20cu mm will force hollow areas within the print and speed up print time. Additionally, embossed surface details are included to test 3D printer resolution and an embossed star on the bottom of the model to assess first-layer squashing. Finally, a moving part is integrated to test printer clearances (clip) between separating pieces (.2mm).
