Calibration cubes for x, y, and z measurements can be checked with simple cubes, but they often prove difficult to use, especially when calibrating z, due to first layer artifacts such as an elephant foot. The "calibration corner" extends the cube in all three dimensions, simplifying z calibration along with x and y, as not only is the 40mm corner dimension consistent, but so are the open walls at 2mm each.
