Printing those small calibration cubes is an awesome way to monitor your progress. My initial cube was a disaster - I had to explain to people what it was supposed to be, which is pretty obvious: a cube! My cube staircase displays my growth - yes, painfully slow at first, but now it's enjoyable to see how far I've come.
