Do you want to make some neuroscience ornaments for your friends and family? Do you have access to a 3D-printer and/or laser cutter? If so, then make some of these Cajal-inspired ornaments this holiday season!

For well over 100 years, Santiago Ramón y Cajal has inspired generations of neuroscientists with his intricate drawings of cells in the brain. I have now turned some of these drawings, into ornaments for the holidays.

I have included files for 4x 3D printable designs and 6x laser cut ornaments.

The designs include:

Purkinje Cell in the human cerebellum.
Neuroglia of the pyramidal layer
Hippocampus
Hippocampal pyramidal cell
Glial cells in the mouse spinal cord (only available as laser-cut file)
Organization of a folium in the cerebellar cortex (only available as laser-cut file)

Two sets of files available:

3D printable:

Due to the intricate designs, these ornaments had to be made slightly larger than their laser-cut counterparts. These designs have been optimized so that they can be printed in multiple colors with simple manual filament changes (based on layer height). Does not require multi-material printers.

Color ranges:

Color 1: 0 - 1.2 mm
Color 2: 1.2 - 1.6 mm
Color 3: 1.6 - 2.4 mm

Laser-cut:

These can be made by engraving and cutting wood with a laser cutter. The solid black area is engraved, and the thin red lines are cut.
Please do not sell these commercially. I am sharing them under the Creative Commons - Attribution - Non-commercial - Share Alike license.

Print instructions

Unassociated tags: laser cutting

Category: Decor Summary

Do you want to make some neuroscience ornaments for your friends and family?
