This funerary stone transports us far away to the current Hungary, where the original monument is on display. To reach the legionary camp of Aquincum (Budapest) in Pannonia, the soldier from Como Caius Castricius Victor first traveled along the Gallic Road, then at Verona he took the Postumian Way. After 13 years of honorable service in the Legio II Adiutrix, at the age of 38, Caius Castricius Victor died far from home. A trusted friend, his fellow soldier Lucius Lucilius, arranged for his burial and dedicated a monument to him that shows him completely armed, with a breastplate, helmet, two spears, a short sword, a dagger, and a shield. The stone dates back to the first decades of the 2nd century AD.
