Caisson Cannon

This artillery piece, initially developed and utilized by British forces, saw its technology adopted by American troops in the 19th century. It gained prominence during the Mexican War and the American Civil War. Featuring a bucket at the front for tar or grease, this cannon allowed easy lubrication of the barrel after each shot. A pair of chests were carried on a limber or caisson attached to the tail of the cannon, while four or six horses pulled it along. As part of my coursework in technical drawing at Sharif University during Spring 2013, this fascinating piece of history was the focus of my project.
