Cahill Butterfly Relief Map
thingiverse
A topographic + bathymetric map of the world in Cahill's Butterfly projection. Pieces can be taped together and left in a net to keep the butterfly shape, or closed to create an octohedral globe. The source code to generate the Cahill projection is here: https://github.com/jeremy-swan/Cahill. My print was in all white and painted with acrylics, but in hindsight it would've been easier to print in blue to save myself some painting. The projected images were converted to models using Cura's lithophane import, with settings: Base 5mm Height 3mm Width 200mm Lighter is higher Smoothing 0 Print settings Layer height: 0.12mm Infill: 20%
