Cage with working gate

Cage with working gate

In a rush for my sister's birthday present, I created an adorable monkey with a cage using my 3D printer. The design was made in OpenSCAD, though there were some fudge factors involved due to time constraints. Initially, the bars and base were designed as one part but had stability issues. Hence, the bars have pegs fitting into holes on the walls, while the gate slides into specially slotted bars. Due to last-minute changes, roof and base are identical except for a cutout. If you want to modify the design, it's suggested to create a function for the cutout. The cage is the largest item my Thing-o-Matic printer has ever made. However, be cautious with printing as it exceeds the build area of a Cupcake or ABP on a Thing-o-Matic, requiring a leveled platform and turning off outline. Print the gate, bars (requiring support), and then assemble using glue or acetone to bond the roof, base, and bars together. The gate might be tight due to inadequate hole thickness in the roof but can be sanded for smooth sliding. Overall, it's a fun project that makes an excellent birthday gift!
