Summary Molecule structure STL files are generated by OpenSCAD, a program created from "sdf2scad.perl" Perl script that extracts data from NCBI PubChem database 3D SDF format files. For generating scripts and notes, refer to http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:689652 (Water and Ethanol). Two substances keep you awake and invite sleep - caffeine (C8H10N4O2) and melatonin (C13H16N2O2), both are stunning. Construction 3D data (SDF file) comes from the PubChem Project https://pubchem.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/. Instructions For detail, see http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:689652 (Water and Ethanol). I used Microsoft Model Repair Service (https://modelrepair.azurewebsites.net/, MS account required) to generate STL files using OpenSCAD. Melatonin is my first work in this series. I used black & white filament for carbon & other atoms, but due to contamination, it's not as beautiful as you see in the picture. If you'd like to make separate STL files and use a dual extruder printer, read the Instructions in "Water and Ethanol" at http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:689652. Caffeine is made using only white filament, then painted black. As seen in the picture, it's more beautiful than melatonin which uses dual filament (white & black).
