Before sundials became widespread, this portable sun dial of the 18th century allowed you to get the time at any moment. When it is correctly aligned, thanks to the compass, the shadow cast by an oblique rod on the dials allows you to read the time on one or the other of the dials. The object presents itself as a wooden box measuring 7.6 centimeters on each side. It consists of two sun dials, one horizontal and the other vertical, with hour lines drawn on them that depend on latitude. A stylus (rod) and a compass complete the device. Inv. No.: 98.1.2667 from the collections of the Ernest Cognacq Museum in Saint-Martin de Ré (17 - France). 3D digitization: Spider scanner - Artec3D
