Using Jetty's fantastic OmNomNom app, I was finally able to print a prickly cactus from an iPhone photo of a plastic cactus that I had collected from a party supply store years ago. I utilized the medallion feature and made adjustments to the OpenSCAD code so that the base equaled zero. I'm also surprised that this is the very first (tagged) cactus on Thingiverse!
