CAC-19 Boomerang (WIP)
sketchfab
Right now this is an early work-in-progress, and I plan to update it as I go along. I decided to create a neat aircraft model for the /r/Blender subreddit because they have a monthly contest, and this month's theme is "vehicles." Since I was looking for something that hasn't been 3D modeled much, I chose the Commonwealth Aircraft Company's CAC-19 "Boomerang." This aircraft was flown against Japanese expansion by Australia in World War II, but it tended to have more of a support role than being a main fighter. Right now there isn't much detail, as the current mesh here is a template that will be modeled over. I found that retopo-style modeling for mechanical things gives a lot more freedom in developing edge flow while maintaining surface alignment with the volume provided by the template. So expect changes as this is updated. Also, here's a link to the video from my last live stream of modeling this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sGtPBvbrx4U My next stream should be sometime in the afternoon or evening (US Central).
