Caboose for Trackmaster
thingiverse
This is a mashup between the modular TrackMaster trucks and a real train caboose. To make it more toddler-friendly, I simplified the model of the caboose. I merged the "flat car" mesh from the modular trucks directly into the caboose mesh. Print the body, undercarriage, and roofs with a brim to keep edges flat, but the smaller pieces without a brim to preserve their shape. The wheel and body holes and pegs may require sanding to allow the pegs to fit snugly in the undercarriage and the wheels to turn smoothly. I glued the roofs to the body and the body to the undercarriage with superglue. Alternatively, if you achieve a tight enough fit on the undercarriage pegs, you could try using press-fit instead. I painted the roof and wheels black (spray paint), and the body red. They could have been printed in that color from the start, but I only had white at the time. After finishing this project and seeing it with the other cars, it stands out due to its raised undercarriage. The manufactured cars feature wheels sunk into the undercarriage, which look better. At some point, I may attempt to design a simple undercarriage like that.
