thingiverse
This handy gauge measures cable quality by verifying swage crimps are below maximum after-swage diameters. Check cable sizes: 1/16", 3/32", 1/8", 5/32", 3/16", and 1/4". Verify dimensions using US Rigging Supply's document, available at http://www.usrigging.com/pdfs/Swage-Inst.pdf. Important instructions can be found in the Instructions section. The "Big Squeeze" article by Kitplanes on swaged cable failures in aircraft is a must-read, viewable at http://www.kitplanes.com/issues/30_12/builder_spotlight/fabricating_cables_20888-1.html. **Instructions** To use this print effectively: Print as a high-quality solid object with precise dimensions to .001". Review US Rigging Supply's sheet for maximum after-swage dimensions. Use calipers to check the printed part's gauge openings and adjust the scale accordingly. Repeat the calibration process until accuracy is within .002". Highlight the raised text with black Sharpie for better visibility. When using this gauge, keep in mind that it flexes, so test swages without excessive friction or sloppiness. Adhere to US Rigging Supply's guidelines, as dimensions should not be smaller than .010" less than the maximum.
