A 2.5-year-old girl, Sima, was born with a muscle disease. She has muscle weakness, is not mobile at all, but can move her hands slightly. Sima is a vital and communicative child. Sima is connected to a breathing machine 24 hours a day and is monitored by a saturation meter, as well as fed through a gastrostomy tube. Sima learns at a rehabilitation day center in the Elwyn hospital in Jerusalem. This is a day center for children with complex medical and developmental needs, many of whom are ventilated. Sima sits throughout the day on an insert tailored to her needs. The insert has attached sheets for respiratory equipment and a breathing machine. All medical equipment requires electricity, creating a tangled web of electrical cords hanging from the chair. In my final project, I chose to print organizers for the electrical cords, providing a practical and aesthetic solution.
