Cable Chain Mount for Printrbot Metal Plus
thingiverse
At my last maintenance cycle, I was pondering adding a cable chain running from the extruder carriage on my Printrbot Metal Plus. The only mounting option I could find was an attachment that fit snugly over the extruder motor, but I wasn't thrilled with that idea. So, I decided to design my own mount, one that would attach directly to the existing cable management arm instead. This approach utilizes the threaded holes already present for secure attachment. Additionally, I added through holes to keep wires tidy and organized using wire ties. The design allows for installation without removing any wires from the machine entirely. Essentially, any open link chain will work; I opted for those found on www.thingiverse.com/thing:11978. After printing and testing the setup, I decided against using it due to still losing around 40 mm of Z height. While this was an improvement over the original over-the-motor mount, it wasn't sufficient for my needs. Nonetheless, I thought I'd share this design in case someone else might find it useful. For those interested in making changes or modifications, I've included an STP file of the model.
