Hi Maker !

First of all, credits to original models I used for this kit and their makers.
https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4314829/files

I used the slim link and its cover and the extruder mounting plate. However the hotend provided didn't fit on my direct drive upgrade. In fact, the chain on the bracket interfered with one of the screws used to hold in place the extruder in the front (Creality direct drive). So I decided to design my own.

I printed the hotend mount and I reproduced it in Fusion360 but I added an offset at the end of the bracket in order to place the chain on the right of the extruder bracket.

No clearance problem anymore as you can see on the pictures.

To print and assemble this kit:

Print 1x my hotend mount.

Print 16x slim-link and 16x slim-link_cover (available here or on the thingiverse page, same files).

Print 1x extruder-mount-27mm-stock (available here or on the thingiverse page, same file).

Assemble the chain with the links.

Install the extruder bracket on the X-axis (don't forget to place the axis at the highest point, easier to unscrew/screw).

Install my hotend mount between the bearing and the extruder bracket, it should snap on if installed correctly (if required, support with your other hand the axis otherwise it will drop if you apply force on it).

Route the cables inside the chain you assembled. At this point you can use zip ties to hold the cable in place in the hotend bracket (3mm width max).

Install the link covers progressively but stop 2 or 3 links before the extruder bracket

Route the cable in the 90°-turn inside the extruder bracket.

Install the other end of the chain inside it too. You can install zip ties if needed.

Install the 2-3 remaining link covers

Enjoy !

I printed with PLA but you can use PETG if you want.

If you want to continue the chain down to the base, you can resume the assembly on the thingiverse guide.

Share, comment and let me know what you think !

Happy printing !
