cabinet latch - magnetic
thingiverse
So my dog can open the cabinet in our kitchen where the trash is stored and she enjoys rummaging through it thoroughly (picture her in National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation). No one in our household likes using kid-proofing devices that are a hassle to operate. Therefore, my initial thought was neodimium magnets, hopefully strong enough to outsmart the dog but simple for a human to use. I located some magnets and set the hole size on the front of the holder to accommodate them, added an extra one or two inside for holding power, and screwed a small yet thick metal plate (also known as a washer) to the door and suddenly the trash is safe from our K-9 companion.
