Cabinet door hinge shims
thingiverse
OK, this is just a little thing and many people probably wouldn't even notice. But it is very nice when doors close flat against their cabinet frames as they should. Wooden cabinet doors and frames may tend to warp a bit over time. There are other similar shims posted on various sites but none seem to be quite like these. Almost all of them are for the larger room door hinges or exterior doors. These are designed expressly for standard kitchen and bathroom cabinet door hinges. In the course of re-finishing our kitchen cabinets I felt that it was time to do something about a few of the doors that had become a little annoying. Rather than bending the hinges, cutting pockets in the doors or frames, or using cardboard or toothpicks, which are the "standard" fixes to re-align doors like this, I chose instead to shim the hinges. It is quick and easy to do, and works like a charm. Because the shims are located behind the doors (see photos) they are really not noticeable. And now the doors close properly along their "opening" edges. As mentioned, I designed these for standard cabinet door hinge hole patterns. You can scale them to suit your hinges in your slicer if needed and they can be trimmed with scissors or shears if necessary. I have included thicknesses from 1mm through 2.5mm and they can be stacked or scaled to achieve whatever you need. In one of the photos I show a door that I shimmed with a single 2mm shim, and another door that required a stack of a 1mm, 1.5mm and 2mm spacer. Addition of felt dots at the top and bottom corners along the non-hinged side of the doors also helps make them close smoothly and quietly. Again it is just a little thing that most people might not even notice, but we like it when our cabinet doors close properly and quietly. I have printed close to 100 of these so far for our own uses and for family members. They work extremely well. Thanks for looking.
