cab interior and updated lighting for Marklin F7
thingiverse
This is a cab interior for Marklins old EMD F7 model (3060, 3160, 3061, 3062, 3181, 3129, 3349, 3362, 3462, 3481, 3649, 3662, 3663, 3781, 33621, 37621) with updated LED lighting. It can be made so that the lower and upper light can be seperately controlled, as well as the number lighting. Using an appropriate decoder 'mars light' functionality can be used. There is also the possibility to add a red LED as a rear light. Additionally it supports cab lighting using a seperate LED holder PCB as well. I used 0603 LEDs soldered to a prototyping PCB cut to size. For the LEDs for the main lighting it is best to use prototype PCBs with metallised holes so that all wiring and resistors can be put on the back. This gives room for the light shield to be mounted. The Freecad source has been included as well, there is a model in there that indicates the size of the PCB board to use. The size of the cab lighting can be derived from the pictures. The design consists of multple parts that need to be screwed together using 1.6mm self tapping screws. I used 5mm long ones intended for plastic. For best results the existing light conductor should be cut in 2 to reduce light leakage between upper and lower front light. The original non-transparent windows should be replaced by transparant ones to view the interior. I included a .pdf with a template to print on transparant plastic. It can be printed on 'overhead projector' sheets and then cut to size. Possibly some finetuning, especially with the length is required for a good fit (the original plastic was ~0.4mm thick). Note that here is some light leakage, but the pictures make it a lot worse than it is in real life.
