C4 (Mariner) Class Cargo ship 1:1200 scale
thingiverse
The C4 vessel was engineered specifically by the US Navy following World War II as a replacement for the Liberty and Victory ship fleet. Although owned and managed by private shipping companies, these ships could be requisitioned during times of war. History suggests that this practice took place during the Korean War. Furthermore, it's reasonable to believe that some C4 ships remain operational. As part of a 3D printing project, I have printed several scaled models of these vessels using PLA material at a layer thickness of 0.25 mm and operating at an extremely slow print speed in order to prevent warping of delicate parts. Additionally, masts for the models can be fabricated from 1.2 mm brass wire combined with balsa wood blocks. The deck areas feature pre-drilled holes to enable easy insertion of the mast components.
