C3PO Animatronic - Version 1
thingiverse
This is my "mostly 3D printed" animatronic design for a fully articulated C-3PO. The design includes 19 independent degrees of freedom/movement. Head Rotation Head Lean L/R and F/B Head Up/Down Shoulder Roll Shoulder Pitch Bicep Roll Elbow Rotation Wrist Roll Wrist Pitch Torso Rotation Torso Lean L/R and F/B Hip Lean L/R A future version may include fully articulated hands. If you have already printed a whole suit at 100% from my previous files, you can use practically all of it. The "special" parts are as follows. 1. Biceps- the top part of the original bicep is rounded and angled. The top part of the bicep on the animatronic is straight. If you want to use your old biceps, you can simply cut the top part off since it will be hidden under the shoulder bells. Also, I added small 'V' shaped notches on the inside of the cuff to help align the mating pivot hardware. These notches are not necessary for function though. 2. Hands - I added flat mating surfaces inside the wrist and holes to fit the wrist servo into the hands. If you want to use original hands, you can but it will take a small amount of custom fabrication to mount the wrist servos into them. 3. Shoulder bearing - this is the only part you must print new as it interfaces with the shoulder mechanism. 4. Feet - I added a version of the feet that are completely flat at the bottom and are open. You can use your old feet if you cut the bottom out.
