CSS Virginia was the first steam-powered ironclad warship constructed by the Confederate States Navy during the American Civil War's inaugural year; she was built as a casemate ironclad using the raised and modified original lower hull and engines from the scuttled steam frigate USS Merrimack. Virginia played a significant role in the Battle of Hampton Roads, facing off against the Union's USS Monitor in March 1862. The battle is notable in naval history for being the first confrontation between ironclads. This model was designed to accompany a companion model of U.S.S. Monitor created by a friend. Following an initial search on Thingiverse, it became apparent that Virginia is underrepresented on the platform, prompting me to upload my attempt. The design features rounded fore and aft superstructures, as well as a small pilothouse and an elongated fantail. Further details, including the lower hull, remain unmodeled. The model measures 385mm in length with a beam of 72mm, translating to approximately 1:200 scale - although I did not prioritize scaling during design. The version printed at 25% of the original size is on display.
