Students extended their fifth-grade study of Mesopotamia by designing and crafting personalized Mesopotamian-style cylinder seals. To begin, students visited the Morgan Library's Near East exhibition to observe and research the intricate works on display, carefully sketching what they saw as reference points for their own creative endeavors. Next, each student visualized their ideal cylinder seal design and brought it to life by drawing it onto paper. Using Adobe Illustrator, students created vector art that was then saved as an SVG file and imported into Tinkercad, a 3D modeling platform. In Tinkercad, the line art served as a guide for shaping a cylindrical form, effectively "carving" out intricate details with precision.
